The dichotomy of "origin and branch" represents one of the fundamental dualities in Arabic linguistic studies. This research examines aspects of this dichotomy as utilized by linguists to explain the structure of words in Arabic morphology. The significance of this investigation lies in elucidating the impact of this duality in interpreting the structural changes that have occurred in words, contributing to their development, and uncovering the dimensions of this dichotomy within the framework of Arabic morphological theory.
This study aims to examine aspects of the dichotomy of "origin and branch" within Arabic morphological studies, elucidate its nature and dimensions within the framework of Arabic morphological theory, and highlight its role in interpreting structural changes in word formation and their development. The research adopts a descriptive-analytical methodology by observing this dichotomy across the various domains of morphology, classifying its issues, and analyzing them to uncover the nature of the relationship ruling this linguistic duality.
The study is structured into two sections: the first section is dedicated to the concept of "origin and branch" in linguistic studies, while the second examines the manifestations of this dichotomy in interpreting the structure of words in Arabic. The findings indicate that this dichotomy serves as a guiding principle in morphological structures, particularly in matters related to vowel vocalization (ʾiʿlāl), substitution (ʾibdāl), diminutive forms (taṣghīr), attribution (nisba), pluralization (al jumuʿ), and other morphological phenomena.
