This research examines the social and cultural significance of jokes in Iraqi society. It begins by presenting the main themes it focuses on, then moves on to discuss the fundamental concepts related to the topic, clarifying them linguistically and terminologically to establish the methodological and theoretical framework of the study. Following this, the research explores the anthropological concept of jokes, seeking to define the associated cognitive frameworks by tracing their linguistic roots, examining their origins in human society, and explaining their significance as a linguistic and social activity.
The research also addresses the methodology of anthropological study in analyzing jokes or popular anecdotes, clarifying the tools used in this field, while also considering the role of socialization in the dissemination and understanding of jokes within the studied society. It then focuses specifically on the anthropology of jokes in Iraqi society, highlighting their characteristics within the context of social life.
Within the framework of studying the theoretical and applied dimensions of the concept of jokes from an anthropological perspective, the research presents these aspects in some detail to solidify its central idea. The study also discusses, in a subsequent section, the function of humor and its role in social communication, particularly in light of globalization and the resulting standardization of cultural patterns, where humor emerges as an effective cultural and social tool. The research concludes with a presentation of findings
and recommendations summarizing its key conclusions.
