Interaction with Social Artificial Intelligence and its Relationship to Psychological Loneliness among Young People

As the influence of artificial intelligence grows in every aspect of daily life, supporters of the technology emphasize the importance of social AI in potentially alleviating the prevalence of psychological loneliness, which Pepalu & Perlman (1979) defined as an emotional state resulting from an individual’s perception of a deficiency in their social relationships, such that these relationships do not satisfy their intimate or social needs.
The present study aimed to investigate the following:
1- To examine social AI among university students
2- To investigate the significance of differences in social AI according to the gender variable.
3- To examine psychological loneliness among university students
4- To investigate the significance of differences in psychological loneliness according to the gender variable.
5-The correlation between social intelligence and psychological well-being among university students
To achieve the above, the researcher developed a social intelligence scale based on social learning theory, comprising 16 items with five-point response options. The researcher also adopted Russell’s (Russell et al., 1978) psychological well-being scale, comprising 10 items with five-point response options. The sample consisted of 200 male and female students, from whom psychometric characteristics were extracted using SPSS software.
The present study concluded the following:
1- University students demonstrate statistically significant interaction with social artificial intelligence.
2- There is a difference in social AI according to the gender variable, favoring females.
3- University students exhibit psychological unity, with statistical significance.
4- There is no difference in social AI according to the gender variable.
5- There is a strong correlation between social AI and psychological well-being among university students. The study concluded with a set of recommendations and proposals.
