This study aimed to explore the impact of the economic status of students' families on their interaction with family counseling programs offered at the University of Sharjah. It focused on analyzing how economic factors influence students' benefit from these programs, identifying challenges faced by students from different economic backgrounds, and proposing strategies to enhance the effectiveness of these programs to meet the needs of all students.
The study revealed a correlation between family economic status and students' benefit from counseling programs, with students from low-income families showing a higher need for financial and advisory support. The study also analyzed social challenges related to economic status, such as embarrassment in requesting help and lack of awareness of available programs.
Based on statistical analysis using the t-test, the results showed significant differences in providing financial consultations to students from low-income backgrounds (t-value = 3.60, P = 0.000). These findings reflect a strong emphasis on providing financial support, but the study also highlighted challenges such as finding time to participate in the programs and lack of awareness, which negatively affects students' engagement with counseling services.
