Affecting factors in criminal behavior in United Arab Emirates

The study examined the factors influencing criminal behavior within Emirati society, considering that such behavior constitutes one of the most significant negative phenomena affecting communities. This is particularly due to the presence of underlying factors that support and stimulate criminal conduct among individuals, resulting in various other consequences that adversely impact social stability and public safety. Accordingly, the primary objective of this study was to identify the factors contributing to criminal behavior in the United Arab Emirates, in order to develop findings and recommendations that could assist relevant institutions in mitigating the influence of these factors or limiting criminal activities by identifying their root causes. The study aimed to explore the impact of social and economic transformations on crime, as well as the resulting factors that have led to increased crime rates. Additionally, it investigated the influence of cultural diversity on criminal behavior within the community. Methodologically, this research adopted a descriptive-analytical approach. The study yielded several key findings, the most significant of which include: poverty, social pressure, and bullying were identified as prominent social factors influencing criminal behavior. Furthermore, family-related factors such as neglect, exposure to violence, familial conflict, and family disintegration were found to significantly contribute to such behavior. In terms of economic factors, extreme poverty and unemployment emerged as primary influences. Culturally, the study revealed that cultural conflict, bias, discrimination, and various cultural influences were major contributors to criminal tendencies. Moreover, it concluded that the glorification of violence, the propagation of hostile sentiments through media platforms, and the lack of adequate media oversight are among the key technological and media-related factors impacting criminal behavior.
