The aim of this study was to reveal the life path of some of the offenders involved in theft crimes in the Emirate of Dubai, who were arrested by the Dubai Police due to their criminal acts and are incarcerated in Dubai's prisons. The information was collected through in-depth interviews conducted by the researcher with a small sample of these criminals, consisting of five individuals. The small sample size was due to the intensive nature of the interviews, which involved detailed accounts of the thefts.
The interviews focused on the elements of Routine Activity Theory, exploring how they committed the theft, the reasons that led them to commit the crime, whether they had specific skills for committing theft, how they selected the time, place, and target for the crime, and how they bypassed intense surveillance, whether from police officers or security cameras.
The results showed that all members of the sample, without exception, resorted to committing theft due to the difficult economic conditions they faced in their home countries. They needed to earn money to support their families. Additionally, some of these individuals, due to their difficult social and economic circumstances, became victims of criminal gangs who coerced them into committing theft in exchange for a sum of money as a result of their criminal acts.
