Abstract

Since the beginning of the grammatical composition movement, the early grammarians have been keen to explain the grammatical functions - even if they did not state their names - and they realized the linguistic pillars and factors on which these functions depend, and the role they play within the grammatical structure. The first features of the Arabic linguistic theory were formed at their hands, which was concerned with linking the essence of language to its function. They thus understood that language is a means of communication between the speakers, and they found that the best method for studying language is the method that takes into account the circumstances of the discourse, and enhances the connection between the article and the situation on the one hand, and between the structure and the function on the other hand. This theory is considered the basis for the modern theory of functional grammar.
