The impact of the policy of empowering persons with disabilities on protecting them from abuse in the Emirate of Sharjah

This study aimed to explore disability empowerment policies and protection measures against abuse in the Emirate of Sharjah, employing a descriptive-analytical methodology. The study reached a set of conclusions, the most important of which are: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) possesses an international reputation for granting people of determination their rights and striving to empower them in various fields, with a growing record of achievements and the launch of qualitative and strategic initiatives. The UAE is committed to supporting and enabling persons with disabilities to live independent and dignified lives by enacting laws aimed at protecting their rights, including preventing discrimination and ensuring access to education, housing, healthcare, and employment, as well as launching strategies dedicated to empowering persons with disabilities and protecting them from abuse. The study also revealed the contributions of the Emirate of Sharjah as a pioneering model in empowering persons with disabilities and protecting them from abuse, having made significant efforts at various levels to ensure the inclusion of this group in society and the promotion of their rights. These efforts revolve around several key pillars, including legislation, educational programs, vocational rehabilitation, social support, and community awareness. Additionally, Sharjah provides diverse and integrated educational, health, vocational, and rehabilitation services to support persons with disabilities, aiming to enhance their inclusion in society and enable them to live independently. The study recommended the necessity of providing qualified and licensed teachers to contribute to the early detection of disabilities, enabling the development of proactive prevention and intervention plans. It also emphasized strengthening legislation and policies, ensuring the enforcement of laws that protect the rights of persons with disabilities, and periodically reviewing and updating legislation to meet evolving needs.
