The reality of the use of High School Diploma students to the networks of the social communication in Al Ain City

Abstract

This study aims at looking closely at high school female student's use of social networking websites in Alain city. We conducted this research by taking into consideration the demographic factors and the reality about using social networking webs by female students as well as the effect of these websites on their academic performance.

  In order to conduct this research, we collected the study data through a question Nair prepared specially to carry out the study on samples of high school female students chosen randomly.

 The research samples of this study are grade 12 female students in both Art and science sections in state school in Alain. the study included 300 female students from 3 different high schools in Alain Education office.

 The results of the study showed that 75% of the research samples are members in social networking webs and 50% use these webs daily. Also, the majority of them reassured that these sites didn’t affect them negatively as many people assume and what supports their claim is that the GPA of most of them ranged between 80% - 89% in the first trimester.

Moreover, more than 50% of the research samples said that they join these websites regularly and believe that social networking   sites are sometime more important than the skills and the information they learned at school.

Regarding the question on the required efforts that should be taken to reduce and limit the negative impact of using social networking webs, most students believe that this could be done by supporting good morals and religious education and by involving students in raising awareness programs that educate students about how to use these webs and how to invest their free time.

The research came up with several recommendations:

The most important one is the emphasis on the effective role of the educational institution in bringing up individuals as they contribute to shaping their personalities and prepare the youth to face challenges in the future. These institutions are responsible for identifying the services offered by these websites and how to use them to improve their knowledge and academic performance.

Also, the researcher recommended that further studies should be conducted on social networking websites, particularly, the studies related to the safe use of social networking websites by students.
