Abstract

The current research aims to identify positive and negative beliefs about anxiety among students of the College of Pharmacy, University of Baghdad, and to know the statistically significant differences according to the gender variable (males - females). The research sample was limited to students of the College of Pharmacy for the academic year (2024-2025). The study sample amounted to (200) male and female students from the college students, (56) male students, and (144) female students, who were chosen by the random sample method. The researcher used the descriptive correlational method in the current study. To collect data, the scale of positive and negative beliefs was adopted in its original version and translated into Arabic to suit the Iraqi environment (et.al, 2014, Poggiazian). The scale includes (18) paragraphs divided into two dimensions, the first dimension (positive beliefs) and the second dimension (negative beliefs). The data were collected and processed statistically using the t-test for one sample, the t-test for two independent samples, and a correlation coefficient. Pearson and Cronbach's alpha). The current study reached the results that the students of the College of Pharmacy have a high degree of negative beliefs on the items of the negative beliefs scale, while the results confirmed that the students of the College of Pharmacy have a low degree of positive beliefs on the items of the positive beliefs scale. It was found that there were no statistically significant differences in negative and positive beliefs about anxiety between males and females. The results of the current study were interpreted in light of previous studies and the theoretical framework. In light of the results, the researcher recommends emphasizing the qualification of those responsible for the "guidance process in the psychological counseling and educational guidance unit" and activating the psychological counseling and educational guidance unit from specialists in this aspect intensively in colleges and universities to qualify university students to use positive beliefs to confront any problems related to anxiety, which negatively affects their academic and scientific performance, and emphasizing the importance of universities and colleges holding in-person and electronic workshops from specialists in the counseling department, along with holding conferences and seminars. The researcher put forward some proposals and recommendations (conducting more research and studies on the subject Positive and negative beliefs and their relationship to anxiety were studied in various samples of teachers, department heads, school students, and teaching staff. The aim was to determine the level of positive and negative beliefs, study the relationship between positive and negative beliefs and thought control, anxiety and its relationship to personality traits, and its impact on academic success.
